North Carolina police detective Dr. Alex Cross (Morgan Freeman) searches for an elusive psychopath whose mission is to abduct young women but not necessarily kill them but "collect" them like trophies who he hides in a mysterious place in the woods. His quarry though, includes the detective's own law-student niece, so he has a race against time to find them. Kick boxing medical intern Dr. Kate McTiernan (Ashley Judd) who escaped the "collection," volunteers to help. The film is a nail biting yet formulaic thriller, based on the series of novels by James Patterson.
