The future of mankind is in serious doubt as a result of a bacteriological war. Only a seemingly chosen few have survived the grizzly effects of germ warfare unharmed. A small enclave of healthy, determined survivors has formed a camp where they, for a while live peacefully. The other human survivors have turned into terribly disfigured mutants known as the "Family" who only walk the earth at night but have turned into ugily, grizzly predators. The last man alive (played by Charlton Heston) exists by gathering supplies by day from a deserted Los Angeles whose streets are strewn with the post-apocalyptic remnants of the super-funky '70s.
Based on Richard Matheson's novel "I Am Legend," and similar to the much later Will Smith movie of the same name
